By Greg Rodriguez I have spent the past two decades in the field and on the range with conventional turn-bolt rifles like Winchester's Model 70 and Remington's Model 700. They've served me well, so it should come as no surprise that when I first saw the Blaser R-93 and its kooky straight-pull action, I was not the least bit interested.

The Blaser R93, through its extremely safe and practice-suited technical design is one of the most popular hunting rifles offered on todays market. The straight fact is that with the enormous numbers of the R93 in the field today it is extremely rare that a rifle is destructed through incorrectly loaded ammunition. This is argument enough for.

A Norwegian got have his face smashed by the bolt of a Blaser R93 in 2003. He got really serious injuries including losing one eye. There are at least 8 other similar accidents with the Blaser R93 and of course Blaser blames it all on the ones using the guns. Funny enough did Blaser recall many R93s to equip them with a new straight pull mechanism.

Re: Blaser r93 - is it accurate. Did it deserve the \"Rifle of the Century\" Davyd, I've copied across a couple of posts I made in answer to Torsten's reloading questions for the R93 that may be of interest(see quote box below). As regards the qualities of the R93 design itself: The R93 is a really, really neat idea -straight pull bolt, convenience for travel, weight, calibre interchange etc.

The Blaser R93 is not inexpensive, the Synthetic (a complete rifle and the least expensive) carried a MSRP of about $2000 in 2005. The quick detachable rings I have listed for about $227, extra barrels at $664, and either a magnum or standard bolt head at $203. Dealer retail prices are usually somewhat below these catalog figures.
